Beth Charles

Solitude, tranquility and romance are common threads woven into many of Beth's impressionistic works. She is a flexible and prolific artist, working in acrylics, oils and watercolor to capture movement, moods, and memories

Born and raised in Michigan, Beth and her family have been residents of Holland since 1996.  She is a 1987 cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan having earned her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts with concentrations in painting, drawing and illustration.  Prior to coming to Holland, Beth painted and exhibited in Dallas, Texas and L.A., California.

Beth’s favored media is acrylic on large gallery wrapped canvas which allows for the painting to continue over the edge and around the sides, adding dimension and a surprise to the viewer. Her subject matter ranges from floral to figurative works with a focus on realism.  She has been working increasingly more with the palette knife and acrylic fiber additives to enhance the movement and texture of her work.

Beth’s design and color sense and ability to demonstrate painting techniques effortlessly have lead to her success in teaching and leading workshops for Holland Friends of Art and Lake Effect Galleries’ art camps and adult painting classes.  She often collaborates with interior designers, private parties and Lake Effect owner, Carrie Rodgers-O’Neal, to create commissioned art pieces that meet their imaginative expectations and design needs.

She is a resident artist at Lake Effect Gallery, Holland, Michigan.  Her ever changing collection of work may be enjoyed at the gallery and website.
