Gotfried received a Master of Fine Arts in Book Arts and Printmaking from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Ceramic Sculpture from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Trained as a bookbinder and rare-book-conservator, Gotfried has worked with the Brandywine River Museum, the Free Library of Philadelphia and the American Philosophical Society. She has studied art at the Haystack Mountain School of Craft in Maine and the Penland School of Craft in North Carolina. Using a variety of media including handmade paper, mixed media, ceramics, photography, and glass, Gotfried brings complex narrative and visual presence to her work. She is most interested in capturing the small moments that constitute a whole life-narrative .
