Lynn Rae Lowe is a prolific sculptor, working in bronze, copper and steel, Lynn Rae’s soaring, celebratory works are characterized by iconoglyphic images that evoke ecumenical myth and ritual.
Lynn Rae’s work aspires to capture the presence of the absolute: At this point in society’s evolution, I feel we are searching for a sense of oneness that is greater than the individual. With the world becoming ever smaller under the expanding, powerful eye of the electronic media, we need to have images that remind us of our own truth, our own power and our own creativity. As a result, many traditions and rituals that we have ignored or taken for granted, are now being seen as more important in our daily lives. Tradition, spirituality and ritual are calling to us. Most of my work is associated with this call and responds to my belief that we need to surround ourselves with symbols that uplift our souls and make our spirits dance.
In addition to Lynn Raes’s unique steel and bronze sculptures, she has more recently started creating her ‘inner landscapes’ using stainless steel, aluminum or copper as her canvas, which is saturated with color and dances with captured light. Once completed with solvent dyes, the finished painting is then protected with a clear powder coat and baked to 400 degrees.
