My professional background was centered around traditional healing. For 28 years my focus was on enhancing the health of mind, body and spirit in everyone I worked with. Perhaps that is what compelled me to learn about the Hopi heritage, their tradition, their culture and spirituality. Their history and legends are grounded in the earth and express all forms of life.
I was profoundly inspired by the beauty of their art and so began my artistic journey using the unique shapes of gourds I found being harvested at Casa Grande, Arizona.
The transformation of a moldy gourd into an equisite sculpture is an involved process, beginning with cleaning, carving and painting. The search for emblishments that come from the land, rocks, fossils, feathers, sea grass are all incorporated into the end result. This facination represents the fulfillment of my own creative energy.
