TONI ELLIS Toni likes to go where people fear to tread: which these days carries the lofty title of a Community Innovator. Tenacious, rarely takes no for an answer and, over the years, has become experienced at building and steering bandwagons. Her accomplishments include: Building a fine paper recycling program in Ottawa with Pollution Probe; Running Canada’s first multi-material recycling program in East York; Working on public education for Laidlaw Waste Systems during implementation of first blue box program in Kitchener; Coordinating province’s first Recycling Week (now Waste Reduction Week); Developing and field testing of a number of innovative environmental programs promoting water awareness, climate change action and children’s environmental programs; Founding board member of the Elora Centre for Environmental Excellence, now one of Canada’s most accomplished green communities; Lead a successful effort to rescue a historic school building in her now home town of Elora, and transform it into an Arts Centre; And, most recently, she has turned her energies to one of her loves – trees, by establishing a Heritage Tree Program in Centre Wellington.
