Artist's Statement
My drawings and paintings are inspired by the beauty of the prairie, the sky and the creatures that call it home. I like to think of the natural world around me as "God's Canvas", and I am challenged to attempt to capture an essessence what I observe on this "canvas" with others in my art. I am particularly drawn to capture the play of light and shadow on the local landscape, and focus on the small, but beautiful, elements in nature that are easily overlooked or taken for granted.
Artist's Background
My first love in creating art is graphite pencil with a touch of watercolor, but currently my primary media are acrylic, watercolor and oils. I work on location or from my own photographs. Rarely without my camera, I also sell many of my photos that capture the spirit of the moment, and don't need to be repeated or improved on by rendering them in paint.
I am a member of local Wamego, KS based, artists association, The Columbian Artist Group, and a Signature Member of the Missouri Valley Impressionist Society. Art has been in juried shows, and is in numerous private collections and featured in SouthWind Art Gallery books "State of the Art-Kansas", based on work in the Kansas 150 Show, and "Topeka: A Great Arts Town", featuring work from the Paint Topeka event, and part of the Flint Hills Discovery Center's 2013 "Through the Artist's Eyes" exhibit.
