Rafael Lopez-Ramos is a visual artist born in Cabaiguán (1962) and raised in Havana, Cuba, where he graduated from Academy of Fine Arts San Alejandro, 1985. His latest solo exhibits have been Wonderland, at The Art Link in Miami, FL, 2013 and at 17 Frost Art Space in Brooklyn, NY, 2012. Lopez-Ramos currently lives and paints in Miami, FL.
Following his cogitative penchant, Lopez-Ramos artworks are usually structured on multiple visual and semantic layers of contrasting iconographies from which a concept emerges. It all morphs into a sort of palimpsest when superimposed on abstract expressionist backgrounds. He has participated in curated group exhibitions like Stealing Base: Cuba at Bate, The 8th Floor, New York, NY, 2013; Art Takes Times Square, New York, NY, 2012; Base Paint -The Auction, IDEOBOX Artspace, Miami, FL; CAFE XII, Sangre de Cristo Arts Center, Pueblo, CO, 2011; Contemporary Cuban Art in New York (CANY), Dactyl Foundation, NY, 2009, and Killing Time, Exit Art, NY, 2007. His work is discussed in the book Cuban Artists Across the Diaspora: Setting the Tent Against the House by Andrea O’Reilly Herrera, University of Texas Press, 2011.
