Daud Akhriev was born in Kazakhstan to Ingush parents in 1959. Since the age of eight he studied in Soviet schools in the Northern Caucasus specializing in fine art education. He graduated from Vladikavkaz Art High School and then Art College. In 1991 Akhriev graduated with honors from the Academy of Fine Art in St. Petersburg (then Leningrad) Russia, under the tutelage of Professor/Academic Piotr Fomin. He also apprenticed with Professor/Academic Andrei Mylnikov. Following graduation with a Master’s degree, Akhriev moved to the United States, where he based in Chattanooga, Tennessee for twenty years. He has frequently taught seminars, workshops, summer painting trips to Europe, and guest taught at the University of Tennessee and the Florence Academy. He won residency at the McNamara Foundation in Westport Island, Maine in 2003. Regular gallery representation includes Greenhouse Gallery in Texas, the River Gallery in Tennessee and Gallery K.Art.Ina in Kazakhstan. Other exhibitions have included the Hunter Museum of American art solo show and 2010 Invitational, the Chris Beetles Gallery Summer Show in London, the Academy of Fine Art Museum in St. Petersburg Russia, the former Alberti Gallery, London and groups shows nationally and internationally. Monumental paintings by Akhriev hang in several religious and charitable institutions throughout the American South, and his four monumental bronzes, The Four Seasons, were installed in Chattanooga in the historic center in 2011. Akhriev completed a 5 x 10-meter mosaic at Baylor School in the Fall of 2013. Akhriev’s work has been featured in Sculpture Magazine, Southern Living, Art Collector Magazine, Artists Magazine and Chattanooga Magazine. Books include Daud Akhriev: Stylistic Pluralism; Traditions Rediscovered, The Finley Collection of Russian Art, and numerous books published on the drawing and painting traditions of the Academy of Fine art both in Russia and in China. Currently the artist lives in Andalusia, Spain, and is an exhibiting member of ASPAS and ESPES, and is a signature member of Oil Painters of America.
