One of today’s foremost artists, Nancy Lund, native of Salt Lake City Utah was born in 1931. She started her career after being challenged to paint by her husband and friend and hasn’t looked back since. Having studied at the New York Art Students League, Scottsdale Arts School, and the University of Utah, she thoroughly developed her artistic talent. She spent much time studying with masters such as Robert Wood, Millard Sheets, George Post and Milford Zones. Nancy has had one woman shows both locally and abroad. She has shown in several European countries, Japan, and all over the US. Among her many accomplishments and awards she also completed commissions for President Reagan and President Bush. Nancy Lund was the first woman in the inter-mountain area to receive an award being nationally recognized for her artistic achievements.
Nancy says that she loses herself in her painting and lives every stroke of the brush. She is deeply inspired by colors and beauty. “I love color” she says “Colors are the words which convey my feelings”. She adeptly interweaves delicate and profound brushwork to capture a unique nostalgia, transporting the viewer into another dimension. Nancy’s artistry manages to activate all of our senses. “I’ve got to go beyond a flower in a pot”, she explains, “to capture the feeling, the excitement, the happiness, that’s why I do what I do”. The eye flickers effortlessly over stippled shadows and delights in the glowing highlights that illuminate her florals. You will find little symmetry in her work, for her creativeness calls for a more elusive form. The dynamic colors and bold lines in her oil renderings contrast the subtle hues and forms achieved in her watercolors.
In addition to being an artist, Lund has taught at several art institutions including, Brigham Young University, The University of Utah, Bountiful Art Center, Kings Cottage, and for the Watercolor Society. Nancy is very dedicated to the philosophy of continuing education. She conducts Demonstrative Workshops nationwide as well as attends workshops to further her own skills. Some of her other interests include professionally singing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for 22 years. Her paintings were highlighted during the Tabernacle broadcast for two years. She believes that art and music go hand in hand, the creative mind often longs for both.
Nancy Lund is an accomplished and dynamic artist. Her watercolors and oils are enjoyed in many museums, hotels, public buildings, Universities, and prominent collections throughout the world.
