Massive Chinese ceiling panel probably taken from the top of a bridal bed. Finely carved with a large flowering tree peony, symbolic of marital bliss, wealth and good fortune. The peony surrounded with four bats, one in each corner. The five bats (one bat appears to be missing) represent the "Five Natural Blessings": Health, Wealth, A long Life, Many Children and a Natural Death. Original lacquer finishes.
