Schofield began painting and studying watercolor while in high school. His art teacher privately tutored him for two years in the watercolor medium. He later studied with well-known watercolorist John Pike (a contemporary of Robert Wood) in Woodstock, New York. Schofield is widely known as a landscape painter and printmaker.
