Description

Note Coalbrookedale a settlement in Shropshire, England was one of the primary sites of the Industrial Revolution. Its blast furnaces were the first to produce cast iron rails for the railroads and the first cast iron bridge opened in 1780; known as Iron Bridge, it spans the River Severn and still stands today. In the 19th Century, the Coalbrookedale Company closed its blast furnaces, but its foundry remained in operation, producing decorative ironwork. During this time it cast a variety of domestic and architectural fittings, ornamental sculpture, and fountains. Coalbrookedale won a Council Medal at the juried Great Exhibition in 1851 for its showing of cast iron statues
