Japanese lacquer Kodansu (small tansu or chest). This eleborately lacquered chest was a gift to an ambassador to Japan in the 1920's or 1930's. It was from the estate of an individual in Hawai'i. It is has an overall lacquer with medallions in glossy gold and low lustre gold, and has a fundame ground (speckled gold flecked lacquer). There are silver pulls and metal mounts and locks.
