R.C. Gorman (American, 1932-2005) - ''Woman from Taos" (1983) is a lithograph in color, signed and numbered (293/350) in pencil. The image measures 9" x 12.5" and with frame and matting, it is 23" x 27." Rudolph Carl Gorman was a Native American visual artist known for his iconic imagery of Navajo women. He wanted to make art that was both accessible and affordable, especially to the Navajo community. He established the first Native-owned fine art gallery in historic Taos, N.M., in which he worked and lived for several decades. Gorman’s prolific art career included bronze sculpture, oil pastels, ceramics, printmaking, paper castings and even tapestries. His work was commercially successful and reproduced widely on note cards, calendars, posters and other merchandise.
