Beauty No. 16 - The first Beauty Series paintings began as commissioned pieces for a local church's Easter celebration. The idea behind them was to represent the beauty of Christ's resurrection. I translated this and sought to depict, in an abstract form, the beauty of His radiance. To achieve the effect, I chose an underlayer of red, referencing the shed blood, which would also create a glow for the next layers of gold and bronze. The gold layer along with the gold leafing are the direct references to His beauty. Finally, I chose the filmy white layers as a reference to one day seeing His beauty without a veil. This canvas integrates three concepts - what He did, who He is, and what will be.
