This jewelry set features micro-mosaic vignettes of ancient Roman monuments depicted in a romantic state of noble ruins. The monuments on the necklace include a triumphal arch, the Temple of Minerva Medica, a square temple at the Largo Aureola, the round Temple of Hercules by the Tiber and the Pyramid of Cestius. The earrings evoke ruins from the Forum Romanum and Palatine Hill. The two largest micro-mosaics in the necklace are surrounded with a boarder of seed pearls. The mosaics date to circa 1800 and the necklace and earring settings were fabricated in circa 1815. Original sketches for the settings are included.
