Joe was born in Chicago in 1931, attended high shool in Wisconsin and college in Iowa. After leaving religious studies in 1957, he attended Loyola University in Chicago; graduating in 1963 with a B.A. in English Literature. He began his artistic studies at the American Academy in Chicago in 1958, the Academia Carrerra in Bergamo, Italy in 1960 and St. Isabel School of Fine Arts in Seville, Spain in 1965. In 1967 he married fellow artist Josefa Benavides. From 1972 to the present he has exhibited in galleries and art fairs in the U.S. and Spain winning numerous awards and prizes. He is currently represented by galleries in Florida and Seville, Spain. The themes of Joe's paintings resemble dreams and are full of fantastic landscapes, outlandish creatures and novel machines - all set in vivid watercolor. With his art, Joe fondly hopes to introduce the onlooker to the wonderful world of imagination.
