Description

(After) Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901, France.) "May Belfort" (1895) - This lithograph is a re-production of the iconic 1895 Belle Epoque poster created by Lautrec to advertise the Irish singer at the Petit Casino in Paris. It is hand-pulled, plate monogrammed, indicates the publisher, Kleinmann, with the Paris address, numbered 333, contains the RE' Society identification. Great pains were taken in 2002 to capture feeling, style, color and exact size (24" x 31" unframed) of the original poster. A Certificate of Authenticity from the RE' Society, Ltd. accompanies this work of art. Ships free (in a tube) in the USA. The Irish singer, May Belfort, worked in London music halls before arriving in Paris in January 1895. Her slightly disturbing and thinly-veiled erotic act was performed wearing the dress of a little girl with large puffed sleeves and an enormous bonnet. Often she clutched a cat which referred to her most famous song, 'Daddy wouldn't buy me a bow-wow' and lyrics
