Wassily Kandinsky (4 December 1866 – 13 December 1944) - Russian painter and art theorist. Kandinsky is credited with painting one of the first purely abstract works. This framed and matted piece, called “Improvisation 11” is a signed and numbered (26/399) lithograph with blind stamp in the lower right from Leningrad Museum (USSR) and Artist's Rights Society (ARS) blind stamp in the lower left. The image measures 18 x 20 inches, and with mat and frame, the piece is 28 x 28 inches. Shipping is free in the USA.
The original oil on canvas (created by Kandinsky in 1910) is hanging in the Russian Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia. That museum's website describes this work of art as follows, "Like the majority of Kandinsky’s abstract works, Improvisation remains in touch with the visible world. It is still possible to discern in the painting the outlines of a sailing boat cleaving the waves and a dog sitting on the shore."
