(After) Jeff Koons, “Balloon Dog – Red” is a resin and metallic sculpture that measures 10 x 4 x 9.6 inches. This reproduction of the iconic figure comes packed in a box accompanied by a French/English paperback book edition of “A Retrospective / The Album of the Exhibition” published by ‘Centre Pompidou’. Koons released the monumental ten-foot, one-ton Balloon Dog chromium stainless steel sculptures in 1993 as part of his “Celebration” series. In 2013, his Balloon Dog (Orange) sold at auction for $58.4 million – a world record-breaking price for a living artist. Now seen in various colors, sizes and materials, “Balloon Dog” is simultaneously reminiscent of a birthday party souvenir made by a clown at a kids party as well as being a sentimental reminder of man’s best friend.
