Lady Liberty is a recurring theme for Peter Max. Her image has been used in various versions in sculpture, painting, mixed media, and prints portraying just the Liberty Head as well as the Lady in full length. He was asked to paint portraits of the Statue of Liberty by Nancy Reagan in 1981 and then became involved in fund-raising to pay for restoration of the landmark for its 1986 reopening.
