Peter Max (b. 1937 German/American.) The lithograph, "Red Sail" was produced in 1981 and depicts an abstract scene of two profiles facing a man in bellbottoms jumping over a red sailboat. The image size is 20.5" x 26," signed "Max" in the lower right and in the lower left in colored pencil is the word "study." Generally, a study is a practice piece that may experiment with the exact composition and colors. In the lower left of this piece are additionally drawn highlight lines/embellishments, omitted from later work, that make this a rare piece. Peter Max hand-colored this important and rare lithograph titled "Red Sails" with colored pencil and graphite to arrive at his final composition for the full printing. It is matted, framed (28" x 32.5") and ships free in the USA.
