Henri Matisse (1869-1954, France) - Untitled Fleur de Lys from "Poemes de Charles d'Orléans." - Lithograph on wove paper. This piece was originally housed loose (unbound) in a portfolio. Beautifully framed and matted to museum specifications, the dimensions are 20 x 18 inches, and the image is 10" x 8." This item ships free in the USA. This image (one of 54) was created in 1943 and published as photo-lithographs in 1950 by Teriade and printed by Mourlot Freres, Paris. Henri Matisse found inspiration in poetry, including the work of Charles d'Orléans, to whom he pays homage in his 1950 portfolio, "Poemes de Charles d'Orléans." The poet was a member of the French royal family of Valois, has been called the father of French lyric poetry and reputedly the sender of the first Valentine. In late 1942, Matisse selected the "Poèmes" for illustration and most of the work was completed during 1943 including the text of the poems in Matisse's own hand. Matisse had in mind a florilège
