Henri Matisse (1869 – 1954, France) Poster design for the Maison de la Pensee Francaise exhibition in 1950 . This is an original lithograph in a miniature version of the original poster and was printed by Mourlot Freres, Paris in 1959. The image measures 9 x 7 inches and the work of art has been matted and framed measuring 18 x 15 inches. It is a beautiful abstract image created in 1950 with vibrant and crisp yellow and black colors and blue lettering on a white background. The face was assembled from a collage of cut-out paper, and the words consisted of both hand-written and cut-out text. The maquette (preliminary study or drawing) was then transferred to lithography by Mourlot. Years later, in 1959, Mourlot printed this second, smaller lithograph for inclusion in ‘Les Affiches Originales des Maitres de l’Ecole de Paris, 1959’ (‘Original Posters of the Masters of the School of Paris’), a book created to commemorate 25 years of posters printed by Mourlot.
