Henri Matisse (1869-1954, France) is one of the most collected artists in history. In the last years of his life (1950-1954,) Matisse created paper cut-outs. In 1954, Matisse worked with the great French atelier, Mourlot Frères to create a series of color lithographs from these Last Works. "Nude with Oranges," was printed by Mourlot Freres (Paris) in 1954. Another series was printed in 1958. The image is one sided, initialed in the plate, unframed and measures 10.5" x 14". Henri Matisse began painting during a convalescence from an operation, and in 1891 moved to Paris to study art. Matisse became an accomplished painter, sculptor and graphic designer, and one of the most influential artists of the 1900s. He was a leader of the Fauve group, and was regarded as one of the great formative figures in 20th-century art. He was a master of the use of color and form to convey emotional expression.
